ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES : Spring Semester (Jan-June, 2020)
Steps Taken During Lock Down due to COVID 19 Pandemic
1. Online Classes & Assessment
University management, Deans, Heads of the departments and faculty members are engaged to complete scholastic format and protocols of on-going semester with Work from Home (WFH) and Study from Home (SFH) mode. Online classes/meetings platform(s) have been successfully adopted by our faculty members to reach their students through remote instruction.
The customized online platform will accommodate every registered student for online classes through the virtual classroom platform and innovative assessment model. Course instructors will also have an access to interactive whiteboard, shared notes, screen-sharing, online tests, online quizzes, online projects etc. They may also use video analytics and a reporting function to track attendance of students. However, all colleges shall maintain their functional academic autonomy.
Online classes and continuous assessment will be conducted/done as per the modus-operandi given bellow -
2. Functional Setup
a. Zoom Cloud meetings/ conferencing and Google Classroom platforms for discussions, framing policies and execution of Online Classes during on-going unprecedented circumstances.
b. Every Dean and HoD prepared a plan and measures to be taken for online classes, assessment and evaluation with faculty members of their Institutes /College /School /Department, programme coordinators of various academic programmes and class representatives by email/Zoom meetings.
c. The record of active emails and WhatsApp groups of relevant classes/students will be maintained by HoD, Programme Coordinator and concerned faculty members.
3. Operational Setup (Online Lectures)
a. Zoom cloud meetings and Google Classroom will be used as a platform for online classes and assessment of students of all academic programmes in the University.
b. Faculty members may also use more options like Microsoft Team and Google Meet for online classes.
c. Faculty members will invite the students through Zoom/ Google class rooms/emails as per weekly class schedule/time table (spring semester : January to May, 2020) for on line lectures.
d. Lectures on PowerPoint/Lecture outline in docx/PowerPoint presentation will be delivered as per the teaching schedule and weekly class schedule/time table.
e. Quality and academic format of every online lecture shall be monitored by HoD and senior faculty member of the department.
f. Every faculty member of the department and supporting departments is required to mail his/her Monthly Teaching Report to the concerned HoD, from where academic programme is offered.
g. Under present circumstances, a minimum of 20% of syllabus of every course shall be covered by giving assignments through emails/Google Classroom/share my doc etc. The students will submit assignments back to the concerned faculty member through Google Classroom or emails or share my doc etc.
i. Students may get their doubts cleared from concerned teacher during Zoom meetings/Google Classroom. Students may also send their doubts/questions to the respective Class Representatives (CR), who will compile all questions and sends an email to the concerned teacher. The teacher can then upload all answers in one document/through emails etc.
4. Academic Support Components
Open access materials offered through online sources like various MOOCs portals such as Swayam (swayam.gov.in), National Repository of Open Educational Resources (nroer.gov.in), etc. can be provided to students to make online learning more effective.
University Grant Commission (UGC) has also shared 10 links with which students & learners can easily study from home amid lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As per an official notification released by UGC, "There are several ICT initiatives of the MHRD, UGC and its Inter University Centres (IUCs) - Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) and Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), in the form of digital platforms which can be accessed by the teachers, students and researchers in Universities and Colleges for broadening their horizon of learning.

5. Scholastic Assessment
a. Continuous assessment of undergraduate students, graduate students, diploma students and research scholars will be done internally by the course instructor(s) for theory and practical separately. It is being done because of the fact that online theory classed can be conducted but online practical classes cant be conducted provided students are present in the University or course(s) have dry lab experiments.
Therefore, assessment format for course(s) having theory and practicals both [3(2-0-2)] has been divided into two separate channels i.e. 2(2-0-0) for theory and 1(0-0-2) for practical. Accordingly their identities will be also differentiated having same course codes with an additional tag of Th. and Pr.
Further, the online theory classes for a course [2(2-0-0)] are being conducted in ongoing spring semester (January to May, 2.020) with the continuous assessment of the students as per the assessment modules given bellow;

Note : i. The above format is only for theory classes i.e. 2(2-0-0).
ii. Institutes/Colleges/Schools/Departments may have flexibility as per need of
each course for distribution of weightage.
b. Practical classes the same course(s) with credit hour [1(0-0-2)] will be conducted, once the students join the University in consecutive fall semester (July to December, 2020). The students will register such courses [i.e. ME (Pr.) 402 : 1(0-0-2) - Internal Combustion Engines] and complete the practicals/lab experiments as a deficiency of spring semester in fall semester. The practical/lab classes of such deficiency course(s) will be conducted in-tandem with the regular courses offered in fall semester. Institutes/Colleges/Schools/Departments may have flexibility as per need of each course for distribution of weightage.
The continuous assessment and evaluation of the students shall be done as per the format given bellow -

Note : Students performance in practical classes shall be assessed by evaluating them in practical/experiment, he/she has conducted and such course(s) with grade points will be listed in the mark sheet of fall semester (July to December, 2020) with regular courses of fall semester, 2020.
c. Back examinations, Incomplete and Examination for students with re-registration
Back examinations for unsuccessful students and students with incomplete course(s) offered in undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma programmes of previous semester (s) will be conducted in August, 2020 of fall semester (July to December, 2020) after the lockdown is over.
Examinations for re-registered students of undergraduate final year (8th semester for 4 years programme and 6th semester of 3 years programme, postgraduate final year (4th semester) and final year diploma programme only, in course(s) will be conducted in August, 2020 of fall semester (July to December, 2020) after the lockdown is over. These students are advised to attend the online classes, provided the concerned course is offered in on-going semester, to prepare themselves for the upcoming exams in August 2020.
Same provisions as given in c(i) and c(ii) will apply to students commonly categorized as pass-out, but still have pending back exams, incomplete courses and re-registrations.
Undergraduate students of 2nd, 4th and 6th semesters (for 8 semester programmes) and of 2nd and 4th semesters (for 6 semesters programmes), postgraduate students of 2nd semester and diploma students of 2nd or 4th semesters, who have re-registration in the course(s), offered in on-going semester shall be assessed by Scholastic Assessment a. and b.
6. Re-opening of University
i. Once, the lock down is over (may be by the end of April, 2020/May, 2020/ June, 2020/July, 2020; whichever is early) research scholars, final year graduate students and final year undergraduate students, having projects/EL will be called first to join the University and will start/continue the lab and/or field experiments for their Research/project work.
ii. Undergraduate students (for 8 semester programmes - 3rd, 5th and 7th semesters; for 6 semesters programmes: 3rd and 5th semesters)/ graduate students (3rd semester)/ diploma students (3rd or 5th semesters) will join the University in the month of July, 2020 for the fall semester (July to December, 2020), after the lock down is over.
They will complete the practicals/lab experiments as a deficiency of spring semester in fall semester (if any).
